At Hyde Park on the 21st June there was a merge of generations surrounding a massive stage where Pop Princess come Queen Kylie Minogue graces us with an hour and a half of sweet sweet ‘Disco’.
The universally adored Minogue is one of the top pop entertainers, famed for her elaborate and extravagant live shows. She took her awesome Kiss Me Once tour around Europe last year, featuring glittering renditions of our heart thumping favourite hits. This show was no less!
We had an array of different outfit clad outfits including a Lolita inspired gothic dress with a beautiful diamante clad flower crown. She started the show with ‘Better The Devil Your Know’, her 1990 smash given a synth pop sheen all the better to blend into recent floor-fillers like ‘In My Arms’ and ‘Wow’. These songs were accompanied by futuristic looking back up dancers and graphics on the massive screens behind.
She continued to gyrate in front large letters that spelt KYLIE, she even laughed about how the back up dancers placed the letter on stage “I’m so happy we had the letters in the right order.” Changing into her scarlet bodysuit and thigh high boots accompanied by male dancers in Mexican wrestling suits or gimp attire as one fan laughed about. She sang up beat hits such as ‘Spinning Around’, ‘Your Disco Needs You’ and ‘On A Night Like This’ before covering ‘Bette Davis Eyes’, a rock hit she used to sing along to as a child.
It was pleasing to hear Kylie sing all the main stream songs for her fanbase and they were certainly enjoying it especially ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’, “Slow” and “Love At “First Sight”. Her third outfit change was a sparkly silver halterneck catsuit ! The show ended promptly at 10.30pm and with a delay there was an encore but most had already started to stampede out to the tube station.
The Australian pop siren has sold over 70 million records worldwide in a career spanning over 25 years, in total she has clocked up 33 UK Top 10 singles, including seven #1 hits including ‘I Should Be So Lucky’, ‘Spinning Around’, ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’ and ‘All The Lovers.’
