Who are some of your musical influences ?
Probably my top four influences would be Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Elton John. Elvis was the guy that got me into rock and roll and singing, Jerry Lee led me to piano and that boogie-woogie, rock and roll style, Chuck Berry really got me into writing and Elton John also influenced my piano playing and writing. The lyrics to his songs are killer.
If you could collaborate with any artist who would you choose ?
That’s a tough one cause a lot my influences have passed on, but I’d have to say probably someone like Chuck Berry or BB King. I just think they’d be cool to work with and are really creative with what they do.
“Let’s Get Woke” what’s the song really mean to you ?
I feel like “Let’s Get Woke” is a great bridge song. It really takes the old and makes it new. I think if you’re a fan of Jerry Lee or Elton John or even Elvis, you’re gonna be able to find something about this song you like. That’s the way I like to write songs. Where you can see my influences and inspirations of what’s come before me and who I draw from.
What do you hope people take from your music when listening ?
I hope when people listen to my music they get taken somewhere. Maybe it takes them back to years prior by reminding them of what came before or maybe, to this generation and younger, it’s something new and different. Any new music updates you like to share ?
Not yet. I definitely think there will be more new music coming in 2019 but not sure when yet and don’t like to show my cards to soon. Sometimes I don’t even know, but I think it’s gonna be a good year.
